Originally it was one of two chapels on the west of the Severn, the other being at Lower Wick (the remains of which - St Cuthbert’s - can be found in the farm buildings behind the Manor Farm eatery). WebThe original medieval church was established in the N.E. corner of the close as a cemetery chapel to the Cathedral. A new St.Michael's was built in 1839 in College Street, the original church being demolished in 1843. Its existence is now marked only by the ledgerstones near the war memorial. New St.Michael's was demolished in 1965.
